The area I could work on the most is “regulation of emotion”.
Regulation of emotion is important as a manager. Whether the emotion is anxiety, sadness, angry, excited, and confused or frustrated, being able to contain and manage it during your daily duties is a sign of a good manager. Being able to contain emotions and show when necessary can help a manager be more effective and efficient in their role. For instance, this could help them be more receptive to another perspective without assuming and disproving. It can also help in resolving conflicts; if you are hot-headed, your anger will only escalate a situation versus a potential easy resolve.
I believe I am fairly easy-going and contain my emotions “most” of the time. However, I know that I tend to seek approval a bit more than I should, and take some emails a bit more personal than they were intended. Both are much related. It comes down to me being more confident in the decisions I’m making. Most times, I know that I am making the right call on a situation, but will questions myself depending on who I am sending the message to. In these cases, I have recognized my strong suit is to pick up the phone and call the person to talk it through, But through emails, I tend to read “between the lines” when I shouldn’t, and I definitely need to work on that.
Peer 2
The area that I need to work on is “regulation of emotions”. I can honestly say, I took my time with the Measures of Emotions evaluation as I wanted to be sure I had a clear understanding of where I am as a leader.
Lets start with what is emotional regulations. It is the reactions of feeling sad, anxiety, anger, being afraid, and even ashamed. Most often, I find my emotions come into play when I genuinely care about an individual and that individual that somewhat let me down. I do have self-awareness regarding not being able to turn that angry switch off so easily. I do find that when I am angry, I cannot control my thoughts, words, or feelings. Being able to identify who I am as a person and what challenges or obstacles that are in front of me makes me want to be a better person and leader.
One cannot become a better leader until steps are taken within ourselves. Since, I have identified what steps I need to take moving forward, I will be more mindful of how I react to situations and to be less unbothered about other individuals actions. I am always working towards being a better me and I will continue.
