Middle childhood is one of the most critical stages linking childhood to adolescent. Just before this stage, the children will always be in the active mode as they are competent, self-aware and also xxx as they try to cut their own xxx in life (Eccles, 1999). The early adolescent stage is however littered with many challenges that reduces their self-esteem.

One of the reasons as to why the early adolescents start to have low self-esteem is the changes in the physical appearance as well as the many social changes that come with xxx stage. For the girls, they start developing bigger breasts which makes them shy off from the public. There is also a possibility of changes in facial expression as they start developing rushes or pimples which makes them feel they are not as beautiful as they have been before (Eccles, 1999). This eventually lowers their self-confidence.

The desire to have autonomy as well as the change from elementary to middle or junior school also results in problems among the young people. When such adolescents are within the school, home or community setting which may not be adhere to what they need or their desire to be independent, they may end up losing self-confidence and start engaging in bad behavior.
