Actual or Potential Health Concerns

Purpose:  The purpose of this assignment is to prepare students in assessing and identifying actual and potential health concerns. Students will then begin to understand the significance of these health concerns and identify health promotion and illness prevention strategies to address the clients health concerns.

Case Study:  67-year-old male who continues to deliver parcels. The average package weighs between 10 lbs-50 lbs. He is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 110 lbs. He lives alone on a limited income with no family nearby. His vital signs are within normal ranges.

1. Actual or Potential Health Concerns

• Identify two actual or potential health concerns based on the risk factors identified in the assigned cased study. Two total health concerns that can be a combination of 2 actual or 2 potential or 1 actual and 1 potential health concern.
  • Provide supporting evidence for your actual or potential health concerns as related to your client.
• Using evidenced based literature, briefly explain and/or discuss why the two health concerns are significant.
• A minimum of one peer reviewed/evidenced based literature must be used to support your discussion. A textbook can be used in addition to the peer reviewed/evidenced based literature.
• Non-credible references must not be used and will not be considered for grading (i.e.. Magazines, WebMD, Wikipedia).

Actual or Potential Health Concern

There are notable health concerns that the 67-year old man may suffer based on his weight and height. The man’s BMI is 18.88 which is within the normal body weight. Although the health assessment shows that everything is within normal, one major concern is that he could suffer from back or spine complications. The second possible health concern are falls since carrying the load every day is in itself a safety hazed.

Supporting Evidence The man’s BMI is within range and hence possible chronic conditions should be ruled out.
