There can be no better way to describe leadership than to start with the famous quote “a leader is a person who knows the way and is ready to go the very way and show the way.” Many organizations or institutions have come crumbling down for lacking a person who stands the test of time or stand in the gap especially when a situation is not favorable. A good leader may not necessarily possess the skills to be so but rather the ability to respond swiftly depending on an emerging situation. This description brings out situational leadership as studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. For a person who is in charge of a group of people, situational leadership reflects the ability of such individuals to adjust their leadership style to follow the development level of others other than the converse manner. Based on the prevailing situation, the situational leadership theory contends that a leadership style may continually change until it meets other people’s needs.
