Stakeholders are parties to a business or company and can either impact or be impacted by the operations of the company or business (Freeman & Dmytriyev, 2017). Stakeholders will define ethical issues in business based on what their values and standards are. The ethical issues that they may be interested in include consumer rights, working conditions, product safety, privacy and security, environmental sustainability, and full information among others.
Primary stakeholders are individuals or groups of individuals whose influence is critical to the continued survival of the company or business. They have a direct stake in the company or its success. They include employees, shareholders and investors, suppliers, and customers. Secondary stakeholders on the other hand do not have a direct stake in the organization or its success and their influence is more representational than direct. Examples include competitors, community, media, governments, and trade unions among others (Freeman & Dmytriyev, 2017).
