Scope

The scope of this journal article is to raise concern on the increasing security vulnerabilities regarding the data and information stored in the cloud servers.  Although cloud computing has received an increasing adoption among commercial businesses, the article shows that the increasing security concerns on data security and privacy have raised concerns. Businesses opt for private cloud or hybrid cloud systems instead of public cloud storage since the latter cannot be trusted in security the stored data, and they lack security mechanisms to protect data from attack.

Methodology/Purpose and philosophical Approach  

The article utilizes a framework approach that helps to undertake a risk assessment in cloud computing. This framework helps assess or evaluate the potential security threats that commercial businesses are exposed to when adopting cloud computing platforms.  Moreover, the article proposes a cloud security assessment framework based on a literature review that will help uncover the underlying risks that commercial business faces or organizations use cloud computing.

Assumptions

The article assumes that business premises and organizations will gain financial value by implementing cloud computing since they will save on huge capital required to invest in cloud systems as a standalone system.  Moreover, despite the potential risks that businesses face by using cloud computing, there are other benefits, such as increased efficiency.
