Sonia Soto is an 18 year old woman who came to the U.S. from Colombia 1 year ago, speaks limited English, and has no family here. She has a 10th grade education and does read and write in Spanish but very little English. Sonia had to drop out of school to work to support herself after her mother died from a drug overdose.  She says she was very sad for a very long  time then since she felt all alone, and had no energy to do anything except work and sleep. The father of this baby is not involved with her or the baby, and she struggles to earn a living cleaning houses. Her ex-boyfriend convinced her she did not need medical care for the pregnancy so she never saw a doctor throughout her pregnancy. He also got her involved in using methamphetamines and marijuana, which she was positive for when she came to the hospital 5 days ago.
