Health Management After COVID-19

Topic Summary and Rational
My healthcare topic for my capstone project is “Healthcare Management in the World of COVID 19”. The emergence of the Corona pandemic has placed the healthcare sector as one of the key stakeholders in guaranteeing a safe society. Furthermore, the emergence of the pandemic is likely to change how healthcare decisions are made, and healthcare managers across the world must provide a ray of hope as the pandemic’s implications continue to be severe.
The goal of this work is to explore some of the strategies that healthcare managers can use to manage changes that may come with corona and other similar healthcare pandemics. Additionally, how are healthcare managers likely to go around the issue of workforce safety in times of crisis? The topic that I have outlined herein is so much relevant to me as I have passionately worked at management levels in a different healthcare setting. COVID-19 reminds me of the time of healthcare emergencies while working for 911. It calls for courage, skills and competency for management to respond to such healthcare situations.
This topic is worth in that it helps policymakers to have a clear overview of the role that healthcare managers have in mitigating healthcare emergencies. The new perspective that this research will bring is a holistic approach in positioning managers as central players in mitigating challenges that come with healthcare emergencies.
This research will rely on both qualitative and quantitative research and a systematic review of the literature. Relevant and most recent literature about healthcare management at times of emergencies will be evaluated.

Thesis Statement
Healthcare management faces a new challenge from COVID 19, that may forever change the way we manage healthcare during a crisis, and these are changes we can adopt like advancing home-based care programs, optimize staffing, and telehealth as part of the health care healthcare delivery:
Supporting claim 1: Advancing home-based care programs
Topic sentence: With the increased rate of patient admissions due to COVID-19, home-based care is the most feasible way to reduce congestion at hospitals and cut down on infections.
Claim and support of the claim: Ferrara & Albano, (2020) argues that it is important that healthcare managers think of home-based care even after the end of COVID. As healthcare resources continue to be stretched, the most feasible solution is to manage conditions when the patient is at home as that reduces congestion and the possibility of HAI.
Support claim 2: Optimize staffing
Topic sentence: The current shortage of healthcare providers in the US can be an undoing for proper mitigation of infections such as COVID, and hence healthcare organizations must be well equipped with the workforce.
Claim and support of the claim: The emergence of COVID-19 has shown that hospital volumes could increase tremendously and hence stretch the resources in healthcare facilities. It is thus critical that facilities have enough workforce to manage similar conditions.
Support claim 3: Telehealth should be part of healthcare delivery
Topic Sentence: COVID-19 is a reminder that the risk of cross-contamination can be better reduced by adopting telehealth.
Claim and support of the claim: COVID-19 and other infectious diseases can be managed better by reducing cross-contamination. For telehealth to be effective, managers have no option than to be incorporated in the health system routinely.
Conclusion
The emergency of COVID-19 is bound to impact on healthcare delivery across the globe. Managers must, therefore, be ready to adopt emerging changes towards the delivery of quality care. This task has shown that some of the expected changes that managers have to contend with include embracing home-based care, optimizing on the number of staff and lastly seek to embrace telehealth as that is the best way to reduce the spread of infections. COVID-19 is therefore set to bring significant changes that managers have to comply with going forward.
