Footwear impressions are an important piece of evidence that is often overlooked by investigators partly because of inadequate training in the aspects of searching, collection, and preservation but also because of the undervaluing associated with it. Even when one is trained sufficiently, there are challenges that come with the collection including weather conditions, easy destruction of the prints, and incomplete search of the crime scene. Some footwear prints can be easily recognized by the naked eye while others require special equipment to be discovered (Dutelle, 2016).

Value of Footwear Evidence

The value of the footwear prints in forensic examination cannot be underestimated. This proof can be used to determine the identification of a specific known shoe that made the print.
