ESSAY : Why do you think, in an age where data really isn’t private but people want to believe it is…

There have been a host of very high profile hacks in the private sector, commercial sector, and others, across a variety of industries, e.g. SolarWinds, Equifax, OMB, Yahoo, Target, iCloud, and many others. We have a dripping of hacked documents showing up on WikiLeaks, etc. I’m curious how the techniques you will discuss scale? Why do you think, in an age where data really isn’t private but people want to believe it is, that it’s possible that many people just really don’t want to know, thus, companies aren’t really trying that hard to protect their data? I know many who do essentially nothing and assume in their business model that they will have to pay some damages, it’s cheaper to pay the damages than to put a strident program in place. Thoughts? Anyone?

Ransomware attacks in the private sector, commercial sector, and others have been rampant in recent times. These attacks have serious ramifications for the affected sectors, causing interruptions in services, spoofing personal information, breaks down the whole enterprise network infrastructure, and accesses sensitive information among other effects (Aldaraani & Begum, 2018, April).). These effects have huge financial implications for the affected parties.
Due to the evolving nature of the attacks and their complexity that makes it very expensive for companies to invest in security infrastructure against them, many companies are no longer trying hard to protect their data (Rendell, 2019). This is because they find paying for some damages caused by the attacks more affordable as compared to installing security infrastructure.
