ESSAY : ‘Investigations’ Toddler Standards

In this video series from the Eastern Connecticut State University Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) you\’ll see a group of teachers who plan an investigation for all of the age groups.

For this assignment you\’ll watch \’Investigating Balls\’ and focus on Amy Theriault, Toddler Teacher, as she describes the Developmentally Appropriate Practice embedded in this study.

As you watch, take notes and think back to your Activity Plans. What Florida Standards do you see in this video, again, focusing on the Toddler room.

Choose at least three examples and state specifically how they relate to the Florida Standards, Be sure to list the Standards fully and explain why you feel a certain example (be specific) meets or addresses that Standard.

Remember, families and legislators sometimes have no idea of the reasoning and rationale for what we do.

This simply means we have to do a better job of articulating our plans. We cannot say \’they learn through play\’ when we are not always using the word \’play\’ in the same way those outside of our profession understand the meaning.

Think of the planned, intentional, evidence-based activities you plan and align to the Florida Standards for your age group. Sounds very different from just the word, play.
