Herbert Clark Hoover was the 31st president of America who lived between 1874 and 1964. He gained a reputation as humanitarian in the First World War by spearheading hunger-relief agenda in Europe. Hoover became the United States Secretary of commerce and led the construction of the Saint Lawrence Seaway before being elected President in 1928. One year into his presidency, however, a devastating stock market crash occurred and ushered in the Great Depression. The inability to overcome the resulting economic crises made it difficult for him to secure a second term.
Early Years
Herbert Hoover was born on 10th August 1874 in Lowa. He was the second born in a family of Quakers. His father, Jesse Hoover, worked as a blacksmith while his mother, Hulda Hoover, was a teacher.
