Grading Rubric for Week 10 Assignment: 70 points
Criteria
7-10 points Excellent
5-7 points Average
0-4 points Poor
Event Overview Short overview of the event Describe where, when and what
occurred Health outcomes: deaths, injuries,
disruption of systems etc.
Clear, concise and complete Overview is a “snapshot” of what occurred. Background information sets context and connects to the rest of the presentation
Adequate overview, and includes most by not all points listed in the criteria section and the Excellent column
Overview is missing required points and/or is confusing to audience Missing many points listed in the criteria section and the Excellent column
National and International Response to the Event Short description of recovery and
response efforts (both short and long- term) to the event
Include international aid if applicable
Correctly summarizes the response to the disaster both in terms of national and international relief. Identifies if aid was not received from national or international sources
Partially reviews the topic; a summary of either national or international relief is missing
Analysis is very limited Analysis is confusing Analysis is missing all together
Demographics and Description of Country General population pertinent
information of your choice (age, occupations, lifestyle, education)
Prevalent pre-existing disease (morbidity or major causes of death)
Political system Cultural considerations
Multiple points of demographic information are used to describe the country , no more than 3-4 points per slide Points are presented in logical order and easily followed
Demographic information is included and summarized, but information is brief and incomplete Analysis is unclear in some areas
Under 3 points are included, information is missing Analysis is confusing and disorganized
Environment and Resources of Country Environmental considerations Pre-existing resources available Local Public Health and Acute Care
Services available at time of the event. Consider the services provided and the structure of the organizations
Multiple points of information are used Research is clearly presented and utilizes scholarly sources when appropriate.
Literature review is limited; key concepts might be missing or incorrect Most points are ordered well, but images and tables require some effort to understand
Information is missing Analysis is confusing Analysis is missing all together
Pre-Existing Factors Identify at least 2 pre-existing risk
factors that influenced either the development or consequences of the event. You can choose from factors mentioned above or other points that are pertinent to the event
Discuss your selections and how each factor potentially influenced the event
Incorporate research, journal articles, or the highest level of scientific evidence available to make a case supporting your selections
Analysis is clear and concise, logical and sound Evidence is included to support selections from scientific journals Data is included that has bearing on the outcome of the disaster Thoroughly discusses the potential impact of the selected risk factors
2 factors are chosen but reasons for selection are hard to understand Minimal data included to support selections Potential impact of risk factors briefly discussed Limited use of scientific journals for evidence
Under 2 risk factors selected Analysis has gaps in needed information No discussion of the impact of risk factors Non- scientific journals used for evidence *for very recent or very small events scientific journal articles may not be available. Highest level of evidence is the requirement in this case

Plan: Recommendation for a Prevention Program Develop a summary of a prevention
program to mitigate the impact of one of the pre-existing factors you selected on future disasters.
The program could have unlimited funding and the program can be implemented on either the local, national or international level. The program should have a population focus
Consider including health promotion; and primary, secondary and/or tertiary prevention
Include any anticipated community and international partners for the program
Develops a prevention program that is thoughtful and makes the case for why it would be a successful prevention program Developed plan accurately represents health promotion or a level of prevention
Develops a plan that is limited in development The plan is vague and difficult to understand which factor it is trying to mitigate The plan appears to be a realistic approach to preventing the problem, but it is briefly developed
Does not develop a plan to mitigate the impact OR A plan exists but key pieces of information are missing Does not identify a prevention/health promotion focus The plan is unrealistic
Uses Scholarly Sources: Assessment data from primary or
scholarly/government source; best sources of evidence available
General Assignment is readable, makes sense,
and the plan is practical and realistic All assignment requirements are
included Is written in correct format Slide Notes accompany each slide,
explaining the presented content. Regardless of style: all resources are required to be listed in APA format
Multiple scholarly sources used for highest level of evidence In-text/on slide citations seen per APA in final work Images and tables improve comprehension of topic No errors in usage, capitalization, punctuation and spelling No errors in APA formatting, in-text or on- screen citations and reference page
Few scholarly sources used Not all important points are covered with in- text/on slide citations Few images used Some errors in usage, capitalization, punctuation and spelling but does not interfere with reading/understanding OR 1-2 errors in APA formatting, in-text or on- screen citations and reference page
