Have you worked with students with an ASD diagnosis? If so, how did their needs compare to with students with other disabilities? If not, how do you think their needs might compare?

My desire has always been to work with children with exceptionalities. However, I have not had a chance to work with children who have autism spectral disorders. Despite the many similarities in behavior among children who are diagnosed with different disorders, children with ASD may have needs that are unique from other disorders. Before such needs are however identified, it will be more prudent to state that children with ASD may have a unique problem as far as their social skills are concerned (Pfeiffer et al., 2017). They always have a hard time socializing with others. They are rarely interested in talking or sharing with others, they fail to respond to their names, prefer being alone and mostly avoid physical contact. The unique symptoms can thus prompt specific needs that could not be mandatory in other disorders such as ADD. Some of the unique needs, therefore, include the use of the milieu teaching method which is a special teaching methodology that entails manipulation of stimuli in order to achieve a specific change in behavior.
