Subject: GENDER PAY INEQUALITY IN NEW YORK STATE
Gender pay disparity continues to be the talk across all employment sectors within New York. Reports indicate a median annual salary for a woman that has a full-time job is $44,781 while the same for a man is $51,580. The implication is that New York men are paid at least 87 cents more for a single dollar as compared to women. This is roughly an amount of $ 6,799 in wage gaps annually. Even though specific policies and laws that can help reduce or alleviate such disparities exist, they seem to be less effective and hence they have to be changed. One such policy is the Equal Pay Act which is under the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Paycheck Fairness Act which is meant to protect workers through updating and strengthening the Equal Pay Act of 1963 as well as the Women Equality legislation. All these laws and acts may only be existing in the paper as they seem not to work for the good of reducing the gender pay gap.
As an essential component of human resource management, it is an obligation to examine the pay grades in comparison to knowledge and skills that people have and how they relate to the payment they receive for both public and private sector employment (Blau & Kahn, 2017).
