For this activity, you will explore specific websites to learn more about some of the “major players” on the global scene as discussed in Chapter Six.  

Part I: NAFTA

As you recall from Chapter 6, NAFTA started in 1994. Take a few minutes and peruse this website. What are THREE things you learned about NAFTA that you didn’t know before? Explain here – be specific.

• Then, read the “NAFTA Myth versus Fact” sheet. This document is available in MyCourses in the activity folder. You’ll see that there are EIGHT myths cited and then NAFTA responds to each one with a response. After reviewing the document, answer the following questions.

a. Prior to NAFTA’s entry into the free trade agreement between USA and Canada in 1994, high tariffs, duties and quantitative restrictions existed between the two countries. However, after the enactment of this trade agreement, tariffs were slowly eliminated, and duties and other qualitative restrictions were also excluded except for those related to agricultural products (North American Free Trade Agreement [NAFTA], n. d.).
b. The NAFTA agreement between the USA and Canada introduced new chapters such as originality rules, government procurement processes, cultural procedures, and protection of intellectual property rights, procedures for settling disputes, trade-in services, sanitary, agriculture and phytosanitary policies….
