The type of risk hazard I would like to cover with the City of Hallettsville is drought. Drought affects not just our community but all other surrounding communities. It not only affects farmers that make their living off the land, but also includes that cattle that a majority of all farmers raise to sell and make profit from.

One-Third of Texas

I would like to go back to 2007 where they had the worst drought in history, don’t get me wrong Texas always has droughts throughout the year but not one has bad as Nov. 2007. “One-third of the Lone Star State was covered in this drought.” (Littlefield, D. 2009) Which in turn covered 78 counties in south Texas. And during this time, we were also having record temperatures that reached the triple-digits.

Cattle and Corps

When there is a bad drought, farmers either sell the cattle or try and move it to another ranch. The younger ranchers have been taught by family to prepare for the possibility of a drought. Even after a severe drought, farmers are hesitant on expanding the amount of cattle to own. During this bad drought, there have been serval farmers that survive off of crop growing and had limited water supply. For example, the rice farmers struggled secondary to lack of water. Farmers after the drought were hesitant on growing rice secondary to the results from the year before. They were still feeling the effects of loss income and crops. “The total of losses reached $3.6 billion and was likely to soar above 4.1 billion by the end of 2007.” (Littlefield, D. 2009) Difficulties. Proposed project may come into difficulties trying to execute them. When it comes to data collecting if it’s not done properly this could affect the whole project and therefore can make it fail or be ineffective. Then there is lack of funding and the lack of volunteers to help with the project. Which in turn could lead to not educating the community about the hazards and how to recover from it. A diminishing group can cause failure to the entire project. Positive volunteers can help run your project and be s
