Underperformance is a situation whereby an employee is not undertaking their tasks according to the minimum set standards, or even not doing their work at all. It also includes inappropriate behavior, disruptions or negative attitudes, and not following procedures, rules, and policies. There are many reasons for underperforming, which includes lack of motivation, lack of clear objectives, heavy workload, and no room for personal growth, among others.
In the workplace, underperformance can manifest itself in different ways. For example, an employee may not be able to meet the standards of work assigned. This situation may be caused by the employee’s frequent mistakes, not following the instructions, or even being unable to follow a task to its completion.
