Find a local public institution, such as a museum or government building, that you believe has some importance in the community and that allows visitors at a time and price point that works for you. (On-ground students: check with your instructor, as your class may attend a field trip together.)

Go to the institution’s website and read up on its vision, mission, and other information about its role in the community.

Plan a trip to the institution, being sure to prepare yourself by reading about visitor rules, transportation, parking, tickets, current exhibitions, etc.

Complete your field trip by visiting the institution. You will submit a report of your trip in Task 5, so be sure to print out a copy of the form in Task 5 so you can take notes during your trip. TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF DURING YOUR TRIP! You will need a picture to complete Task 5.

Observe carefully and take detailed notes throughout the field trip. Answer the below questions in one substantial paragraph each, using your notes from the trip, and submit the completed document to Moodle for Task 5.

1. What is the function and role of the institution/event you visited? What is its role in the community and its role in culture? Which culture(s) does it represent? What are its goals and mission?

Since the first settlers place their feet in American, Virginia Beach has been one of the historical meeting places that hold remarkable events. Such events include celebrating the righteous Cape Henry that helps to retrace the footstep to the forefathers at the First Landing State Park. Moreover, the Virginia Beach museum is a military aviation museum and a marine science museum that serves as home to the world’s largest collection of war planes in the flying condition (Virginia Beach Museum, 2021). It serves as homes to planes that took part in world war I and world war II, and the collection ranges from the 1910s to the 1950s (Virginia Military Aviation Museum, 2021). The community’s role is to preserve the history of America and show people the American heritage in terms of historical adventures and the capabilities and growth since the historical time when the first visitor landed in America (Virginia Beach Museum, 2021).
