The world has become a global place where people travel from different parts of the world and are settles in different parts. Migration of thousands of people from their home town/country to another has led to interaction between people of different cultures, race, ethnicity and religion. With this diversity around us in schools, offices, hospitals, stores etc, it is of vital importance that we understand the cultural differences and embrace everyone.
This course has provided me with information on how to interact with people of different cultures. Cultural differences has been a major reason why people don’t interact with other people who belong to different culture, religion or ethnicity, this course has given me the confidence to explore different cultures, to try and understand their traditions and value systems and has thus given me the confidence to interact with them without threatening their identity or mine. It has also taught me to adjust and adapt my behavior when in different cultural situations. This way we can achieve an atmosphere and a work space where people of different culture are free to express themselves and feel inclusive.
The course structure was also something that I really appreciate as it was made things really easy to comprehend and thus will help me apply them in real life both at work and in personal life. The skills taught will always be retained, I will always remember to be non-judgmental, empathetic and sensitive to the other cultures.
But the most important thing that happened was the interaction with other students in the course. It was pleasure to know them, attending this course with them and interacting with them as well as the teachers. This course has widened the horizons of my knowledge as well as has made me sensitive to the people around me in general.
