Final Project APII: Design A New Organ System
Challenge:
Now that you have investigated many of the organ systems of the human body, it is time to put your knowledge to the test! Your challenge (and assignment) is to design a NEW organ system. What
additional features for the human body would be beneficial? What do you wish your body could do, but it doesn’t? What “upgrade” might be desirable?
This assignment is broken down into three parts. First up is the completion of a worksheet that “maps out” the structure and function of your new system and its interactions with and impact upon other organs systems. The worksheet will act as the outline for your research report.
Second is a rough draft of your project report, and, third, the completed project report! These reports are to be written in the format of a research paper. I expect the final paper to be approximately 6-8 pages in length not including the title page or the reference page. I will provide feedback for you after the completion of each step in your design process!
Be creative! Have fun! The sky is the limit for this one! Nothing is too outlandish as long as you can design your system within the parameters of the assignment detailed below!
Please note well: To receive ANY credit for this project, you must complete ALL THREE components of the project.
Task:
Each learner will design a new organ system for the human body. Each learner will name the organ system, briefly describe what it is and what it does, fully explain its anatomy and physiology and include a diagram of the system. In addition, the interactions of the organ system with the other organ systems of the human body and its impact on homeostatic mechanisms of the body must be detailed. It is essential to specify how this system is controlled by both the nervous and endocrine systems. I expect most of you will need to do some research for this project, especially with respect to the functioning and homeostatic mechanisms of the NORMAL human body organ systems. References and citations must be included in
standard APA format.
Step 1 – Complete the Final Project worksheet that is posted with the Course Materials on D2L and upload to the appropriate Dropbox by the date listed in your Course Calendar. Again, this document is basically an outline of your research paper. (5 pts)
Step 2 – Complete a rough draft of your project research report and upload to the appropriate Dropbox by the date listed in your Course Calendar. Follow the format of a formal research paper for this rough draft.
(10 pts)
Step 3 – Upload the final project research report to the appropriate Dropbox by the date listed in the Course Calendar. (45 pts). Please refer to the following rubric for the grading guidelines I will be using for the final project report.

Note: Any portion of the assignment that can be reasonably interpreted to be plagiarized will result in a zero for that assignment and
may require a meeting with the appropriate Academic Dean(s). Possible disciplinary actions may also include receiving an “F” for
the course and/or suspension from the college.
This assignment correlates with the following course objectives:
Integrate the relationships between structure and function
Describe the major gross and microscopic anatomic components of select organ systems of the
human body
Describe the functional roles of various body systems especially in light of maintaining
homeostasis
SAMPLE SOLUTION
Design a New Organ System
Physiology
An organ system refers to several organs that come together to perform a specific biological function in the body. An upgrade that I may consider desirable is the replacement system. The replacement system would contain two main parts, namely the mutative and | GET AN EXPERT FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT | of the needed blood vessels and glands that would facilitate the transfer of the blood and the hormones required to run the replacement system effectively. The mutative part, allows the body to adapt to the various environmental conditions and therefore not require the individual to make use of heat-regulating systems such as air conditioners and heaters, which are a common commodity in most houses all over the world. The second part of the replacement system is the regenerative system, which would allow the human body to grow back any of its organs should they start failing or if they get removed | GET AN EXPERT FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT | individual’s liver is incapacitated or removed, it would automatically begin to grow back without needing to go through…
