The prevalence of dementia is fast rising in the world. Currently, the United States has about 6.2 million people diagnosed with dementia and is projected to increase even further due to the increasing number of people with Alzheimer’s disease, the number one cause of dementia. With the progression of the disease, patients become increasingly dependent on other people for help with daily activities. As the disease advances, patients require help simple tasks such as eating and dressing (Hirschman & Hodgson, 2018). This patient population also requires psychosocial support to minimize depression, anxiety, and strain on family relationships.
There are several facilities dedicated to caring for older people diagnosed with dementia across the United States. One such facility is the Villa Siena, a senior living community in Mountain View sponsored by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. The facility provides support to seniors aged sixty years and above, helping to meet some of the patients’ unique needs.
