 Objectives for Week 3

1.  Define epidemiology, essential elements and approach, and the steps in the process. (SLO # 8)
2. Explain the basic epidemiological concepts of at-risk population, natural history of disease, and levels of prevention, relationships, and causation model. (SLO #3,6)
3. Identify how nurses use epidemiology and types of research in public health practice. (SLO #4)
4. Define evidence-based practice, history and relationship between evidence-based practice of nursing in the community. (SLO # 8)
5. Provide examples, resources, and identify barriers for evidence-based practice. (SLO # 2)
6. Discuss how people learn and the steps and principles that guide health education. (SLO #2)
7. Describe the importance of health literacy, factors that influence group members learning about health promotion, health behavior, and health education. (SLO #3)
8. Describe how nurses can promote health and strategize to provide effective health education. (SLO # 1)
