Daily Clinical Reflection # Day 3

Today was my third and last day at my OB/GYN clinical rotation in the outpatient clinic. I went through the COVID screening. I had a different preceptor this time; she was very welcoming and accepting of students and willing to learn. This clinic was for low-income moms, so most of the community was self-pay and Medicaid. Today I answered the telephones, Greeting patients, and Gathered the patient\’s medical history before the phone appointment. We informed the patients regarding their lab values over the phone, as well. I was very confident in doing my work today because I know my routine is to start greeting my patient. I had a patient who came in for an ultrasound. I did a positive pregnancy test. I assisted my nurse in preparing for a prenatal ultrasound. I asked my patient to drink lots of fluid or not pee for a while so that her bladder will be full for the exam. I instructed her to change her cloth to the gown also provided privacy. She put the gel on her abdomen to help with the transmission of the sound waves. The prenatal ultrasound is painless and usually took us less than 30 min. Afterward, we gave her education on nutrition and miscarriages because she had a previous history of miscarriage. Overall today\’s day was busy, but I learned a lot.
