Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder

Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is an unrelenting pattern of behavior characterized by angry and irritable mood, defiance towards authority, argumentative behavior and vindictiveness. These behaviors are evident in a particular setting, usually at home. However, in some extreme cases, they may occur in various settings. Conduct disorder, on the other hand, is a constant behavior pattern in children and teenagers where the rights and the guiding social rules of the peers are violated. These behaviors are exhibited in multiple settings like at home, church, school and the result in significant impairment in the child’s social, family and academic functioning (Comer, 2016). ODD is thought to be caused by biological, social and psychological factors.
