Changing the Ways People Think about Teaching

There continues to be a misconception between education and teaching as in most cases they are used interchangeably. Questions have always emerged on how education can be changed or streamlined to suit the current needs of students as well as help provide a platform for which learners can thrive on an international platform. Unfortunately, the same expected vigor and zeal is not directed towards teaching. For instance, policy implementers have argued that what used to be a kind of dry learning (without innovation of any kind) has changed as education has moved from being a teacher-centered to a learner-centered approach. But has teaching changed in the same measure/along the same dimension? To respond to the changing ways that people think about teaching, it would be prudent to start by clearly differentiating between education and teaching. While education can be defined as the content that a teacher wishes to provide to the students, teaching, on the other hand, can be defined as how such content is passed to the students. For instance, via chalk and talk method, using live demos, using teaching aids or use of narration method among others. In teaching, therefore, there is the aspect of a teacher that one cannot wish away. A good education is definitely an aftermath of successful teaching since a good teacher will definitely be a good educator. People continue to give misconceptions and wrong ideas in regards to the many dimensions of education.
