Part One

Question 1

The reading from Genesis 1-2 reveals several things about human nature. The first fact is that humankind was created in the likeness of God and is therefore expected to function like him. Secondly, after creation, Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden to till and take care of the land, implying that it is part of human nature to work and serve since that is what we were created to do (Jones, 2015). Thirdly, human beings are designed to be God’s helpers and that is hey he ordered Adam to multiply and fill the earth as well a take care of everything already in it. Lastly, human nature is superior to that of other creations, since they are created in God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1-2 NIV).

The Bible, in Genesis 3, talks about the fall of humanity and how human nature suffers several consequences as a result (Genesis 3 NIV). One of the consequences is that the perfect and good nature God intended is tainted by sin (Graves, 2014). Thereby making every human being born from that point onwards the subject to a sinful nature. Also after the fall, human nature is subjected to feelings of guilt and shame. This is seen where Adam and Eve hide their nakedness when they hear God walking about in the Garden, a fact they have never noticed before (Moberly 2009). Lastly, it became part of human nature to experience pain during childbirth and strain when tilling the ground to get food.
