Effective co-teaching strategies support interprofessional collaboration and allow one-to-one learning. The co-planning of the lessons encourages two educators to brainstorm ideas in order to have the strongest and most creative classes (Kaplan, 2012). In addition, co-educators also provide unified instructions for their lessons because they have a mutual agreement on teaching strategies. To some extent, co-teaching is perceived as an effective way of ensuring that the teaching plan is well thought of by at least two teachers, hence making it more reliable. Co-teaching, however, faces various barriers that limit its overall effectiveness. This includes lack of parental support, difficult working conditions, conflict, increased curriculum responsibility, lack of proper funding, and poorly designed curriculum (Perrott, 2014).
