            Erickson’s theory explains the development of an individual through the eight stages of psychological development. In the video, the toddler has already passed the first stage of development since she trusts her teacher and depends on her to make her comfortable around the new faces in their class. She is clearly in the second category of Erickson’s theory of Autonomy vs. shame and doubt. The teacher in this video tries her best to make Ella comfortable amidst the visitors in the class. She does not force Ella to interact with them, but she allows her to doubt them without making her feel guilty about it. She is able to bring back Ella’s concentration to her classmates and makes her feel comfortable in the presence of strangers.

            In the video, Ella exhibits the slow-to-warm-up style of temperament. This is evident when Ella becomes nervous immediately she notices new faces in the classroom. The teacher helps her ease up by first introducing the visitors to her and remind her that she had told her they would visit their class.
