Food supply is expected to be one of the safest procedures in any state. In Wisconsin, foodborne disease outbreaks are reported by the health department through local authorities. Harmful viruses and bacteria that lead to increased case of food poisoning in Wisconsin include E. coli, Listeria, Norovirus, Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, Botulism – Foodborne, Vibrio infections, Cyclosporiasis, Hepatitis A, Campylobacter, and Yersinosis (DHS, 2018). Even though most food safety related illnesses and deaths go unreported, it is estimated that the state of Wisconsin reports close to 2718 annual cases related to foodborne transmission. Of these cases, bacteria accounts for close to 72% while parasites and viruses account for the rest (DHS, 2018). On the country scale, foodborne diseases always accounts for 76 million illnesses that are reported in the US alone. Wisconsin state has experienced the increased cases as a result of improper handling of food, unsafe practices being undertaken on the farms, continued contamination in the manufacturing and distribution stages as well as contamination in stores.

Based on the increased cases (reported and unreported), if adequate measures are not put in place, the foodborne diseases will increase hence causing more deaths.
