Nursing Theory
The most appropriate nursing theory that I select to guide my practice in psychotherapy is Erickson’s Modeling and Role-Modeling Theory. The reason for selecting this theory is because it complements other approaches in the literature and focuses on the individual needs of the patient. This theory facilitates, nurtures, and accepts the patient unconditionally while encouraging self-paced treatment (Erickson, 2017).

The reason for this choice is that it considers the patient’s perceptions and thoughts and how they influence their lives (Nichols, 2014). The theory enables patients to recognize and examine negative thoughts and change their attitudes to be healthier (Wampold, 2015). Also, it will help in designing behavioral experiments during sessions to study cognition in the form of expectations.
