However, the lack of formal business experience is a setback for Erica because she cannot deal with some pertinent issues affecting the business as adequately as is expected. The business has a limited workforce meaning it cannot satisfy the demand in the market.
Even with the weaknesses, the business has an opportunity to expand in the market and generate more profits. Its loyal customers will help advertise it by word of mouth thereby helping the business to expand its customer base. It is however facing threats from other highly established car manufacturers such as Hallmark and American Greeting (Sharen, 2009, May 28). Also, due to the small nature of the business, it would be difficult to access credit from lenders.
One of the most important success factors in business is listening to the customer. When Erica began designing her cards, she thought that people would love them even before getting the opinions of potential customers. By creating cards for no specific occasion, she did not have any customer insights until she printed 1000 copies which did not sell because people wanted cards for specific occasions (Sharen, 2009, May 28). This was a big lesson for her business because she now had to listen to her customers and design what they really needed.
