ASSIGNMENT | Evaluating Both the Group and Individual Program Components of the Central Mothers Program

Being a mother at a young age can be one of the challenging issues that such mothers have to contend with. Some of the challenges that teen mothers have to struggle with include psychological stress, social interaction barriers, and at times, they physically wear out, especially if they have no one to help them out with the parenting journey.

Furthermore, bringing up their children when still teenagers can be challenging as well. In most cases, most have no experience of how they can guide their children or punish them when they get into a mistake. Similar challenges can befall unmarried mothers who have the sole responsibility to bring up their children (Bunch, 2016). It is for these and many reasons that programs such as the Central Mothers program come up with measures that can empower such mothers to be better parents, as will be shown in this essay.

Goals and Objectives of the Program

The Central Mother’s Program has been designed to meet the following objectives:

  1. To offer teen and unmarried mothers with knowledge and skills on appropriate parenting styles
  2. To teach the teen mothers about child development
  3.  To teach the unmarried and the teen mothers on how they can be independent by accessing community resources and other financial support.
  4. To equip the women with skills in finance and domestic budget management
  5. To teach a segment of women on stress management skills

Research Design That Can Evaluate the Effectiveness of the Sessions

Many ways can be used to assess how effective the program sessions are. However, before we identify the research design, it is important to highlight what the research seeks to achieve. The main aim of the central mother’s program is to initiate mechanisms that can better equip teenage and single mothers as better parents to their children. This is, therefore, some kind of correlation that any researcher has to contend with.

A correlational research design will, therefore, be the most appropriate for this study. In the research, we seek to evaluate if there will be a positive/negative/no correlation between the initiatives set up by the program and the respondents being better mothers (Hussain, Kayani & Akhtar, 2018). In the correlation study, it will be essential to use both naturalistic observations where the mental health, physical appearance and other physical attributes will be monitored from one session to another. Random sampling will be done so that the respondents are maintained for easier monitoring of the progress (Matthews et al., 2018). To understand the attitude and opinion of respondents regarding the effectiveness of the program, a survey will also be undertaken. Respondents will be given questionnaires with a given set of questions whose respondents are geared towards evaluating whether the program has been effective or not.

How Client Success and Progress Will Be Measured

Measuring the success of any given program is vital as it shows whether the program goals are being achieved or not. For this program, there are many ways through which the success of the program can be evaluated. First and foremost, it is essential to evaluate the type of skills that the participants have gained from the program. There are many aspects that the program was designed to achieve. One is to help the participants on issues of financial management as well as budget making when they are undertaking their domestic work. To evaluate whether the participants have grasped this objective, it is essential to ask them to give a detailed account of how they can manage a home budget, assuming they are given $ 100. If their explanation is satisfactory, it shows that the training was of help. However, if they cannot explicitly explain how they can manage such a budget, the program may not have achieved its mandate.

Client success and progress can also be measured by comparing their emotional and mental state before and after they joined the program. A person’s psychological behavior can be measured by their state of sadness or looking depressed, looking confused, and the inability to concentrate, having excessive fears on how they will manage their children, overreacting when their children engage in a mistake among others (Joseph, 2018). By comparing the behavior of the program participants based on these lines, it will be easy to find how effective the program has been. An effective program should show that the mothers who looked mentally and emotionally disturbed before joining the program are now happy with their children, and they exhibit no signs of distress. Lastly, other than just observing the behavior of participants, they can also be asked what their attitude is regarding their state of parenthood. Specifically, do they think the project has positively influenced how they look at motherhood? Do they appreciate their children better after joining the program? If the response to such questions is a resounding yes, it implies that they strongly feel the program has significantly changed their attitudes. If they respond as no, it shows the program has had no impact, while if they…
