For many teachers, writing transition plans into an IEP is a struggle. Discuss why you think this might be? What, in your opinion, are things that can be done to better help teachers write complete, purposeful, and useful transitions plans in IEPs?

Writing a transition plan might seem tiresome and tedious to many teachers. The plan requires consultations and discussions with the student or other teachers to become relevant and reliable. In addition, the teacher is required to come up with different plans with diverse contents so as to cover the broad needs, strengths, skills, and interests of every student (Szidon, Ruppar & Smith, 2015). Preparing a transition plan for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder may pose a number of challenges because specific needs of each student must be taken into account. Students are likely to demonstrate significant variations in their language, academic, social, and behavioral abilities. For instance, some students may read easily but have problems to comprehend text.  Therefore, teachers experience challenges during the preparation of IEP transition plan which frustrates their efforts (Siegel, 2017).

Recommendation To help the teachers write a complete, purposeful, and useful transitions, it is important to come up with programs that not only inspire the teachers but also makes them aware of the importance of the plan.
