Ibsen\’s play A Doll\’s House inspired furious denunciation by its enemies and spirited defense by its admirers. Many people read it in a printed version, even when they did not see it on the stage. In the 1880\’s and 1890\’s, this play contributed to the heady intellectual debates that was calling many conventional middle-class assumptions into question. The play, essentially, relates a variety of ideological cross-currents of its time period.
What are your first impression of Nora\’s personality or of Torvald\’s personality? Or their relationship? How does each character\’s personality change throughout the action of the play? Why does Nora leave Torvald and her children? Is she justified in her decision? Is Torvald justified in how he treats Nora? Is he justified in his decision?
