Daniel Ellsberg was charged under Espionage Act of 1977 for theft and conspiracy. He was sentenced to a maximum of 115 years one of the longest sentences ever given by a court. Daniel Ellsberg was later dismissed of all the charges in May 11, 1973 after a Harvard Law Scholl professor Charles NessonJudge William Matthew Byrne Jr discovered massive governmental misconduct and illegal evidence gathered against Ellsberg (Ellsberg, 2014). He was later awarded the right Livelihood award after being deemed as a key figure in the decision theory. Before the Supreme Court had made its ruling, there were speculations that the federal judge had ruled incorrectly about the New Yolk’s right to print the pentagon papers.
