ASSIGNMENT | Pick a sociological concept/term covered in the Course Calendar (terms chosen from a topic not being covered this semester will not receive credit)

Each student will submit a total of four (4) “Images” assignments.

*1 of the 4 assignments will be presented in class this semester. You will need to sign up through the google document link at least the class period before you wish to present.

1. Pick a sociological concept/term covered in the Course Calendar (terms chosen from a topic not being covered this semester will not receive credit)
2. Each student can examine terms of your own choice (no more than 1 can be from the same topic)
3. State and define the sociological concept/term
4. Provide a visual representation (an image) of that concept/term
5. Each assignment will use a different visual source (visuals from a tv show, movie, or book; social media; depiction of current event; personal choice)
6. The visual choice used should fall into the category listed for that assignment and represent your term
7. Provide a write-up tying the concept and the image(s) together. This should include:
   1. “Read” into the media, tell the story of the image(s), describe the image(s)- (i.e. What do you see?)
   2. Explain how and why you feel your visual image represents the sociological term
   3. How do the visual, term and the examination of relationships tie together?
   4. Look through the lens of the sociological perspective and apply 1 of the 3 theoretical perspective (Functionalism, Conflict, Symbolic-Interactionism)
   5. How does your chosen theory or perspective view/explain the term?
   6. To conclude your write up, analyze your term in Context (Relate your term to current events, societal structure, and/or your own perspective/experiences)

The sociological concepts (terms, ideas) will come from the material covered in the course and are chosen by the student. Terms chosen from on a topic not being covered this semester will not receive credit. The visual images can come from a variety of sources . Be creative and have fun with this assignment. The length of each assignment write-up should be at least a full page (400 words or more).
