ASSIGNMENT | Why do you think blogs have become so popular?

Overview:
For your first paper, you will select one of 3 possible topics and answer the provided
questions in detail.
Instructions:
Please remember that the first paper must consist of a cover page, 4 full pages, and a
reference page at minimum. Please meet the other general requirements as stated
above in regard to APA style. You must use at least 3 scholarly sources outside of the
required readings to supplement your paper.
The topics are as follows:

1. Links to blogs are on the website home pages for the New York Times, Washington Post, and LA Times. Use your Internet search engine to locate a conservative blog (e.g., The Drudge Report) and a liberal blog (e.g., The
   Huffington Report). Why do you think blogs have become so popular? What role to they appear to be playing in policy analysis? 2. The Brookings Institution and the Cato Institute are two influential policy research think tanks that often take different views on specific social problems. Access these websites and compare the materials provided by each think tank on the research topic of your choice. How would you describe the different frameworks through which the problem is approached? Does one appear to support a particular ideological perspective more than the other? Which seems to consider the policy analysis with more sensitivity to prior history on the issue? Which would you access first when looking for new information? Why? Be sure to use multiple examples to support your ideas as well as scholarly research. Be sure to also meet the criteria as outlined above for your first paper.
3. The Episcopal Church of America is at the forefront of the struggle for full inclusion of gay and lesbians, but almost every denomination contains a pro-gay element. Using your Internet search engine, locate two pro-gay religious

   Requirements:
   • Each paper should meet the minimum page length requirement as stated in the specific directions below. Each paper must be double spaced with size 12 Times
   New Roman font and 1 inch margins on all sides. You will need to follow the example provided under course information and need a title page, body (at least # full pages), and reference section all in APA style. Please use complete sentences, appropriate grammar, spelling, and references (your textbook is the only reference needed). You will also be required to use in-text references in your work in accordance with APA style to avoid plagiarism.

   • Be sure to avoid using internet sources such as Wikipedia or other web-based resources that do not have strong academic backing if you choose additional resources.
