The triage nurse should suspect norovirus in the client who arrives complaining of vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, and mild fever. The norovirus is a common viral infection, which attaches itself to the cells of the gastrointestinal tract and causes one to develop all the above-named symptoms. Other symptoms associated with the virus include fatigue, headache, and muscle aches (Sakon et al., 2018). The signs and symptoms tend to last for approximately one or two days after infection. The Norovirus can be transmitted through, the ingestion of contaminated food and water, as well as contact with surfaces or individuals who have come into contact with the norovirus.

Culturally competent communication is a critical aspect of providing quality healthcare to one’s patients. There are several ways to ensure that a nurse can communicate effectively with patients from different cultures. One way to do this is by using gestures, written summaries, and pictures that are easy to understand and can help minimize the language barrier one may have with their patients. Secondly, the nurse should attend a workshop that addresses cultural competency to learn all the skills required to deal with clients from different cultural backgrounds (Bahreman & Swoboda, 2016).

Thirdly the nurse should take the time to engage in more cross-cultural interactions with their patients. Understanding that each patient is a unique individual and treating them as such increases the nurse’s effectiveness and ability to communicate with their patients. Learning about the various cultures in the community allows the nurse to identify with their patients, and then align their thoughts and behaviors to suit the needs of that particular individual. A nurse’s job is to provide the best possible care to all of the clients and language should never be a hindrance in making their prime objective possible
