Background Information
Welcome to the first discussion. In this course you will be introduced to a topic in the discussion. The first week of the module you will write about your initial thoughts after reviewing the resources. The initial post should be at least 300 words.

During the following week you will reply to at least two of your classmates. The replies should be at least 100 words. See the discussion rubric for more details on grading.

Being a manager in a workplace presents various opportunities to learn the different aspects of the work setting. It also gives the manager a chance to get a wider view of what happens in the organization including how to interact with all the relevant stakeholders in the work setting (Neferu, 2018). However, there are notable challenges that a manager must contend with and which brings forth the need for specific management skills and competencies like the ones discussed in this task.
The first skill that managers need to have is proper interpersonal communication. Good managers need to understand the emotions, thoughts as well as concerns that others have. Managers need to be not only good communicators but also good listeners as this gives them the ability to solve emerging concerns. Secondly, a good manager must be able to motivate others and showing them that everything is possible. The attitude of positivity often helps managers to achieve the overall targets set by the organization.
