The Voices of Hurricane Katrina
In the literary piece “The voices of hurricane Katrina,” Young helps recount the need to put testimonies of the disaster into a piece of poetry. The narrative presents the ethical duty that any poet has/ought to have for his audience. In her independent published work: Alive in Truth, Young provides an emotional account of the stories that she heard from survivors of the disaster. In her work, however, she critiques work done by Raymond Daniels whose book Saltwater Empire she said plagiarized what she had posted in Alive in Truth. In criticizing the work, Young provides a personal opinion on the need for authors to respect other literary works from whom they derive inspiration.
