Toddlers require not just appropriate materials, but lots of similar materials. They are just moving toward the idea of \’turn taking\’ (which is a better way of introducing \’sharing\’) but, those of you who have worked with toddlers know – don\’t put one, new big, red car in the sandbox – put six!

Here you\’ll see a great example of parallel play – toddlers doing similar play and in close proximity of each other but not playing \’with\’ each other as much as \’near\’ each other.
