Alienation
According to Karl Marx, alienation is the condition in which people are secluded from their work, community or sense of self (Little, 2014). Marx used the concept of alienation to analyze capitalism and the factors associated with it. Using the examples of how workers are alienated from the product or process of their labor, Marx managed to bring out this concept quite clearly. The same concepts can be applied to learners and their education.
Generally, workers lack the opportunity to relate to the commodity they are working on. Under capitalism, employees labor on commodities, but eventually, the products serve the interests of the employer at the employee’s expense (Little, 2014).
