This week we will examine team context, team design, and team performance and productivity. Team context may not be a concept that is readily familiar. However, once you review what it entails, you will find that you have worked within a team context. Think about the way you communicate with and outside the team, the motivation drivers established for the team, and any training needed to participate on the team. Any or all of these may be ways you established context with the team.
Team design may be done well or may be haphazard. This could be due to the lack of knowledge on the team lead. There are several different team designs and some are designed for certain functions. When you read about the various types of teams you will see that there is some overlap as well. Finally, team performance and productivity are what leadership wants from a team. However, team context and team design are integral to team performance and productivity. Think about teams where you have been a member. Was it productivity? Were communications well defined? Was the team productivity? Think about these things when you read the lecture, the supplemental readings and view the You Tubes.
