Urban Health Essay

Obesity has become a health issue of concern in the 21st century in urban environments. In fact, this issue has attracted an increasing attention in terms of policies and strategies that are aimed at bringing it under control. The excess energy does more than increasing the body weight since it surges the risks of major health problems such as heart diseases, depression, cancer, diabetes, and stroke (Kelishadi, 2014).  According to World Health Organization, obesity and overweight are intertwined and refers to excess fat accumulation in the body that may have an adverse effect on health (World Health Organization, 2018).   This paper evaluates how the urban environment increases the prevalence of obesity, thus the paper gathers evidence to justify why obesity has become an urban health issue. The paper carries out an empirical analysis of the obesity rates in three transition regions including; London in England, and then Borough in Islington.
