• Make sure your structure is precise and clear in the – i.e. select and identify in your introduction the areas to be discussed – i.e. a statement of intention of what will be included in the report.

• Make sure the work will be balanced i.e. health, social care, wellbeing – avoid a narrow focus and so can be consistent in your position

• Your work needs to flow with an introduction that addresses title, e.g. from your position explain x number of key related themes/issues that will be discussed will flow from your introduction to conclusion

The Report
▪ This is a Report not Essay (i.e. analyse topic; investigate the topic, present and analyse evidence, make recommendations based on evidence to advise “director” on ways to enhance PW; use some headings if it helps to structure report)

▪ Report should flow in a logical sequence – introductions sets on how you have approached title, recommendations should be based on evidence discussed in main body of report and conclusion summarises briefly main findings

â–ª Remember the context of the report as set out in the handbook

▪ Illustrate your discussion with reference to your particular field of practice – do not focus only on this area of practice. This enables you for example to consider Partnership Work in more detail in report in ONE area of practice e.g. mental health

▪ You do not have to solve the ‘problem of Partnership Work’ but identify some recommendations to advise the director of new organisation i.e. based on the evidence discussed in this report it is advised that the following issues are addressed

Discussion not description

• Do relate your discussion to both policy and theory – select as appropriate to the position you have taken

• Do refer to service users\’ issues and refer to appropriate texts on this

• Do critique what hinders partnership working

• Do refer to models that enable partnership working

• Do give a few brief but detailed practice examples to illustrate your argument, don’t’ get

Don’t forget

• Structures which enable partnership working

• Understanding partnership working at both strategic and operational levels

• Service users and carers perspectives (and they maybe not be the same)

• Impact of power relations on partnership working

• Legislation and policy context

• Reference to NMC, HCPC and YW codes of practice

• Journal articles

• Theories e.g. inter professional team working, power, leadership

• Illustrate with reference to specific practice context – should not become too descriptive and not become central focus

References

• Accurate presentation of references in the text and references is essential but is just the starting point

• Use references to support your work not the other way around – avoid very broad statements which lack supporting evidence

• Must reference all sources i.e. text, web and journals sources (see Imperial guidance on Weblearn: read it carefully)

• Secondary sources poorly referenced (see Imperial guidance)

• Specific references on the following often omitted: service user panel (only if you were there!)(use the presentation guidance given on Weblearn)

• Accuracy re policies cited – understand the time line

• Avoid plagiarism!!!!
