I learned that in the process of me adding up the Life Change Units (LCUs) I wasn\’t aware of all the life changing events that have occurred in my life. After totaling everything up I got the number 345. According to the stress scale anything 300 or more is a major life crisis and there is a 80 percent chance of illness. This tells me that I need to evaluate my mental health. According to (Hales, 2015) in view of such findings, higher levels of stress should be taken seriously.

Some of the hassles that I recognize in my life are finding a work-life balance, death of a sibling and an increase in financial obligations. I currently work two full time jobs and I am a full time college student. It gets stressful trying to manage that as well as my child needs. My financial obligations have increased due to the cost of living going up, college expenses and me being a single parent. Also, the death of my brother took a toll on me because we were so close. I never got a chance to grief because of the other things I had going on in my life.

What measures can you take in order to lower your stress and optimize your health and well being?

When it comes to work life- balance and school I can set deadlines and learn time management skills. This will ensure I’m not consistently feeling pressured or stressed. What if I set deadlines for myself instead of someone else doing it? Does the source of the pressure make a difference? It can certainly help when the pressure is self-imposed, since that would tend to increase your sense of self-control (Brought, Drummond, & Biggs, 2017; Leiter, Gascón, & Martínez-Jarreta, 2010).\” I plan to create a budget spreadsheet to keep up with my financial obligations. I am going to eliminate my wants and focus on my needs. As far as the death in my family is concerned, I believe it will take time. How will this enable you to become a more productive student?

This will enable me to become a better student because I am able to prioritize my day and responsibilities. Instead of me waiting to the deadline to finish assignments I need to challenge myself and set my own deadline. It will allow me to focus on other things that\’s important. With everything that I have going on in my life sometimes it leaves me drained and exhausted. I\’m going to create a schedule for myself and stick to it for the sake of my mental health.
