Poverty and/or the lack of food have an impact on the child’s development. About Ming, the lack of food attributed to poverty significantly impact language and cognitive development. For instance, since Ming is below seven years, there is a connection between his level of nutrition and early brain development, which influences the rate of language learning (Liao et al., 2015). Poor nutrition, for instance, means shortage of nutrients such as iodine and iron, which results in an impairment of motor and cognitive development, and are often irreversible.
Here, this implies that as the child grows up, like Ming, their ability to grasp the language becomes slower, and that the nutrient deficits because of shortage of food means the child’s complex chemical processes of his young brain can result in less efficient interaction and communication between brain cells, thus slowing down the learning of language, and the overall cognitive development (Liao et al., 2015).
