Views on Strain Theory and Gangs
Strain theory was developed in 1938 by Robert K Merton to examine the criminological and sociological aspect of life. The theory explains how society exerts force on individuals to attain socially regarded goals even if they don’t have the means. An excellent example of these socially regarded goals includes the “American Dream” which is a goal based on success, the opportunity for prosperity and social mobility in the families through hard work.
