the Health Sciences Library. The student will learn how to access professional peer reviewed journal articles, format and cite a source in APA format, and develop an annotated bibliography entry.
Guidelines:
1. Student will find ONE peer reviewed, professional nursing journal article which provides information on at least one of the following topics: infection prevention (incision care, hand hygiene, environmental), equipment safety (used for care), universal protocol, patient falls, safe medication administration, communication of patient condition (SBAR), nurse to nurse communication (hand offs), communication with non-English speaking clients, safe assessment documentation, home environment safety ( physical environment, client self-care knowledge, follow-up care knowledge).
2. The peer reviewed article must be within 5 years and from a nursing journal.
3. The annotated bibliography entry will include the article reference and a summary of the article (100-300 words). See example from Engle (2017) on the next page.

5. A title page is not needed for this assignment.
6. A grading rubric will be provided.
7. Student will place completed annotated bibliography and electronic copy of article in the APA assignment drop box by the due date.
8. Late submissions will be penalized 5% deduction late penalty daily, up to 7 days. Submissions received 1 week after the due date will receive a score of \”0\” in the grade center.

Annotated bibliography entry example from Engle (2017):
Waite, L. J., Goldschneider, F. K., & Witsberger, C. (1986). Nonfamily living and the erosion of traditional family orientations among young adults. American Sociological Review, 51, 541-554.
The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. Increasing the time away from parents before marrying increased individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. In contrast, an earlier study by Williams cited below shows no significant gender differences in sex role attitudes as a result of nonfamily
living.
